Assistant Coach: Matthew Brooks

Biography:

     Matthew Brooks is coaching his fourth season with the Burke Boys Soccer Program. He is a Varsity Assistant and is primary roll is to be the technical directer. Previously, he was hired as the Reserve Head Coach, and he notched his first two wins in last years campaign. Coach Brooks short stint as the Reserve head coach landed him 4 wins and 17 losses.

     Brooks was born in Hastings, Nebraska and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 2011. He left home and traveled a long way for college, attending Hastings College where he graduated in 2015.

     Growing up, Brooks played for his hometown club the Hastings Flames. He was dedicated to soccer since he was young, attending camps and participating in indoor leagues. His career continued at Hastings High where he was a four-year starter for the Tigers, missing only three games due to an injury his senior year. Playing as center back, he captained his team to three Class B State appearances. Brooks helped the Tigers win their first state game in school history during the ’09-’10 season, beating Lincoln Lutheran 4-1.  The Tigers went on to be the runner up that year beating the number one seeded South Sioux City before falling to Lincoln Pius in the final 1-0.

     Brooks extended his career at the collegiate level for two years in the NAIA, playing at Hastings College. In his junior year, he decided to pursue his academic interests and studied abroad in Münster, Germany. This put an end to his competitive soccer career but he continues to enjoy the game, playing in local Men’s leagues and is now taking his first steps in coaching.

     He is a coach for the Elkhorn soccer club at the Girl’s U-11 level. Brooks did a fantastic job in his first season despite not earning a win. He is an important part of the Varsity teams success as an assistant and keeps a very young and beginning level Reserve team competitive.
