2009 District A-1 Champions!!!
It is official! Omaha Burke returns to the state tournament for the first time since 2005 and the first time in the Bratt era. #7 Burke beat #1 Westside 1-0 in the second overtime in one of the most exciting district final finishes in recent history. Burke scored the lone goal with 5 minutes left in the second overtime off a coner kick by Shane Sparks that found the head of Larry Mason who found Rafael Magana waiting on the opposite post. Rafael "Rafa" Magana headed the ball into the back of the net past a valient effort by a Westside defender who tried to clear the ball off the line. Burke has beaten some of the state's best teams in this second half of the season. It won't get any easier from here on out as Burke has drawn the 6th seed in the 8 team state tournament. They will play the 3rd seed in the elite eight on Wednesday May 13th at 11:00 A.M. It appears, although will not be official until the evening of 5/8, that Burke will square off against Creighton Prep for the third time this season. Burke and Prep have split the two previous games on couple of 1-0 finishes with Burke winning the most recent.

The Burke Soccer team marched for babies...
On Sunday morning, April 27th, the Burke Soccer team and family took a walk to help raise money to continue reasearch on improving the health of babies. The walk targets preventing premature infant death and disabilities. The Bulldogs raised over $350 to support the March of Dimes. The walk was about 2 miles in length and took about an hour to complete. After the walk, the team reflected on how community support can lead to a better, healthier society. On behalf of the Burke Soccer Program, we would like to thank all of the people who supported our walk.
